Behind The Race - Giro d'Italia / Final Recap

The Giro d'Italia ended a week ago, but the emotions experienced are still vivid.

They remain imprinted like marks on the asphalt, like voices in the memory. Behind the Race followed the Giro, seeking the perspective behind the race, the pulse that accompanies each stage, beyond the news and into reality.

Every great undertaking is made up of details that don't end up in the rankings, but which make the difference. This is Behind the Race .

Romain Bardet gives his final interviews shortly before his final stage of a Grand Tour . After thirteen seasons as a professional, marked by elegance and memorable feats, he's nearing retirement from road racing. But not from cycling: he'll continue to ride gravel and accompany the team's young riders. Rome isn't a farewell to hard work, but a symbolic stage, elegant and silent, in perfect Bardet style. The pink details accompanied the riders along every kilometre of the Giro , like a thin thread that unites the whole of Italy.

From balloons hanging from balconies in mountain villages, to hand-painted bicycles displayed outside bars, to streaks of fresh paint on the sidewalks: everywhere, pink wasn't just a color, but a shared anticipation , a sign of love for running.

Even when the group was far away, those small gestures reminded us that the Giro was passing by and that everyone, in their own way, was part of it. (Photo: Pocispix)

Two wings of enthusiastic crowds framed the penultimate stage of the Giro, transforming the mountain into an open-air theatre.

The decisive climb, the majestic Colle delle Finestre , with its dirt hairpin bends and legendary atmosphere, tested legs and heart, providing one of the most iconic settings of this edition.

At over 2,100 meters above sea level, it is one of the toughest and most iconic climbs in Italian cycling. Introduced to the Giro in 2005, it immediately became legendary: here, stories are written of memorable attacks, sudden crises, and fans who create a human tunnel all the way to the summit. The enthusiasm of the fans lit up the streets of Rome during one of the final stages of the Giro, transforming the Eternal City into an open-air arena.

From the early hours of the morning, thousands of people lined the circuit amidst cobblestones and monuments, bringing with them anticipation, excitement, and an enthusiasm that grew with every pedal stroke. (Photo: Pocispix)

The Colosseum , a silent spectator of ancient feats, provided the backdrop for a modern and contagious enthusiasm, ideally uniting the exploits of yesterday's gladiators with those of today's runners.

As the group sped through the Imperial Forums, the city seemed to hold its breath. Every sprint, every curve, every passage was accompanied by a roar from the crowd, as if even the cobblestones, worn by centuries of history, wanted to applaud.

At that moment, between the wheels bouncing on the pavement and the shadows of ancient monuments, the Giro wrote another page of modern epic, perfectly at home in the heart of history. (Photo: Pocispix)
