Team Colpack Ballan CSB GIRO U23 NEXT GEN VICTORY ROMELE! 3 MERIS

POVEGLIANO (TV): A victory of willpower and determination. Alessandro Romele and Sergio Meris , fueled by the sacred fire of redemption, dominated the sixth stage of the Giro Next Gen (Pergine Valsugana-Povegliano, 166 km) and gave the Colpack Ballan CSB team its 13th victory of the season.

This is Romele's third win of the season (he had previously won the GP Liberazione and Reda in Faenza) and gives the team led by team manager Antonio Bevilacqua , president Beppe Colleoni and the Ballan and D'aprile families an undisputedly prestigious success.

The team victory was completed by the podium of Sergio Meris (3rd), who, along with Romele and Depretto (2nd), formed a long breakaway after the descent from Valico della Fricca, taking advantage of a slowdown in the group. Their lead quickly grew, and the trio soon proved uncatchable all the way to Povegliano.

QUOTES: These are the athletes' comments immediately after the finish line: "It was a spectacle," the winner said. "We relived the sensations of Riolo and Roma. We had calm minds and excellent legs. It was crucial to be able to interpret the moments, manage the ups and downs, and be able to count on two breakaway companions who pedaled incredibly hard. We knew we could do it."

Romele recounts how the breakaway attempt came about. “It was an instinctive move. A lightning-fast connection with Sergio Meris, who was moving to break away. We immediately knew it was the right attempt, because the group was reduced to its bare minimum and a certain fatigue was creeping in. He broke away, facing a headwind and a hilly terrain.”
