Triathlon bike wheels aren't all the same, nor are handlebars and other bike accessories. Product quality is a factor, of course. But there are also the specifics of the discipline you're competing in. Olympic Triathlon, Sprint Triathlon, and Ironman are very different competitions, and the bike must be optimized for specific performance.
Is it possible to have a high-quality, specialized wheel for every discipline? We think so.
URSUS triathlon wheels and handlebars are accessories created by our in-house research and development team, using the most advanced technologies. They are made of carbon and are designed to allow you to achieve the best performance in competition.
All URSUS products are the result of listening to the feedback of professional and amateur triathletes, prototyping, laboratory and road testing . But they are not all the same, because they meet different needs.
In this article, we help you choose the most suitable product for each triathlon discipline.
High-Profile Triathlon Wheels - Ironman: Aerodynamics and Speed
Ironman involves long courses with minimal inclines. This requires specific wheels, designed to be aerodynamic and cut through the air. Once you reach speed, Ironman triathlon wheels must maintain that speed.
Ironman triathletes usually choose high-profile wheels.
What are the most suitable URSUS proposals?
MIURA TC67 disc (or V-brake) wheels. These carbon wheels are tubular-ready. The disc brake version has a 67mm high, 28mm wide profile, with a 21mm internal width.
Very similar, but designed for tubeless, are the MIURA TR67 Disc .
An alternative is to mount the MIURA TS87 EVO with the GAURO disc brake on the rear wheel, with a tubular cover, for maximum aerodynamics . The MIURA TS87EVO is also suitable for time trial racing, and the disc brake rear wheel gives the bike additional speed. You may prefer this option if you have a very aggressive approach to racing and excellent control of the bike.
Which URSUS wheels are suitable for Olympic and Sprint Triathlons?
The URSUS wheels to be mounted for Olympic Triathlon are the MIURA TS47 DISC (or V-brake). They have a lower profile, 47mm carbon, which allows for faster acceleration during relaunches. This model is for tubular tires.
If you prefer tubeless, you can use the MIURA TC37 DISC , which are racing wheels with a 37mm profile. Despite the lower profile, they are very aerodynamic.
Olympic and Sprint Triathlons require wheels with a more relaunch-friendly setup than Ironman, and good racing wheels can do the trick.
Other URSUS products you can consider for these Triathlon disciplines are:
Magnus Line: The Carbon Triathlon Handlebar
In Triathlon, as you know, having an aerodynamic fit is everything.
URSUS has developed and tested two incredibly high-performance handlebars: Magnus H01 and Magnus H02 .
They are truly ergonomic, integrated carbon folds, with a shape designed to be aerodynamic and cut through the air.
Since they are racing handlebars, they can be used without any problems in compliance with the rules imposed by the Federation, even in the Sprint Triathlon and the Olympic Triathlon.
